A TEENAGER died at a South Yorkshire quarry while playing there with pals because bosses failed to replace security fencing after it was repeatedly stolen from the site.
Amber Worth, aged 13, died from multiple injuries last April after she was crushed by a sandstone boulder at Carlton Main Brickworks in Grimethorpe in Barnsley, an inquest heard.

A jury returned a verdict she died after she and pals got into the north west corner of the quarry off Cemetery Road, because there was neither a fence or warning signs to prevent access.

Jurors at Sheffield Crown Court found there was unrestricted access from a footpath surrounding the quarry, a ditch was easily crossed, there was no fencing, no warning signs and no security guard on site and evidence of previous trespass.

Pretty Amber, of Park Avenue, Brierley, was a pupil at Willowgarth High School.

Following the hearing her devastated parents Mark Worth and Kate Royston were too upset to comment.

Carlton Main Brickworks chairman Oliver Stephenson said: "I and all my colleagues were devastated by the tragic accident at our site last year. This was a tragedy for Amber's family and for her friends, and one which we will not forget.

"Since the accident we have been determined to do all we can to learn from it and to prevent anything like this from happening again.

"We constantly review our safety and security measures to make them as strong as possible and will continue to do so."

The Crown Prosecution Service has said it will not pursue a criminal prosecution against Carlton Main Brickworks Ltd.

The Health and Safety Executive is still to decide whether it will bring its own prosecution.
