EMERGENCY services scoured the River Don in Doncaster after reports someone had fallen in.
A 999 call was received at 3.30am on Saturday by a man who said he had heard a commotion near St Mary's Bridge and then a splash.
He said he was worried a woman may have plunged into the water.
But when police, firefighters and paramedics arriv
ed there was nobody to verify the story, and a search ofailed to find anyone in trouble.
Half an hour earlier firefighters were called to St Mary's Bridge to a Toyota Starlet found set alight.
