SCRAPMEN in Barnsley are so fed up of fly-tippers dumping hundreds of tyres on their land they are footing the bill to have them disposed of.
Three businesses on Boulder Bridge Lane in Carlton have been inundated with tyres from people trying to avoid recycling costs.

Now Mel's Motors, Carlton Car Breakers and Milton Goughs are clubbing together to pay the Environment Agency to take th
em away.

Steve Henigan, joint owner at Carlton Car Breakers, said they had previously taken dumped tyres away with their own waste.

But in recent months the problem had spiralled and they were finding more every day when they turned up for work.

Mr Henigan said: "People take the tyres off and dump them on our land, and it's our responsibility to get rid of them. It's not on but there's nothing we can do."

Mel Newton, of Mel's Motors, added: "It makes us look like we are dumping them and for the last 12 months we have been taking them away ourselves, but enough is enough, there are that many."

Council officer Ken Eastwood said the council would consider legal action against anybody found flytipping.
