THIS is the way Skye Edge could look now architects have been chosen to design 140 new homes.
London-based firm Prewett Bizley has been selected as the winning architect for the redevelopment of a site at Skye Edge.

Its design - with a promenade that links the community centre to the park, with fantastic views across Sheffield - was commended as "distinctive" by judges.

The architects are now drawing up detailed plans for new houses on the site, and there will be public consultation this summer on the full designs.

The firm was chosen by a panel of judges as part of a European-wide competition called Europan 9, the world's largest housing design competition for architects under the age of 40.

Sheffield put forward the Skye Edge site because of its distinctive characteristics - it is long and narrow, highly visible from the city centre, and boasts panoramic views.

Karl Tupling, director of housing at Sheffield Council, said: "We want to increase the number of high quality homes in Sheffield that meet the needs of the community. We look forward to working with the architects and local people on the plans for Skye Edge."

It is hoped the plans will complement the wider regeneration of the area, including connections to Wybourn and making the most of local green and open spaces.

The council approved a masterplan for Wybourn, Arbourthorne and Manor Park in 2005 and work is underway on some of the key projects including a new children's centre and improving former council housing.
