PLANS to switch off street lights around Britain to save councils cash will not happen in Sheffield for the forseeable future, it has been confirmed.
Some councils have switched off street lamps on residential roads - causing fury and the fear of crime among locals plunged into darkness.

But Sheffield Council said it has no plans to follow suit at present.

"This would be quite a controversia
l decision to make and would not be taken without due consultation and consideration for the road safety issues."
