STUDENTS tripped the light fantastic when they staged a strictly superior spectacle at a Carnival of Dance created at a Sheffield secondary.
The three-day event held at Bents Green's Silverdale School featured 180 boys and girls from all year groups showing off skills honed over eight months of hard work.
Thirty different styles from around the world were showcased, including Bollywood, salsa, belly dancing, Egyptian, the can-can, Cuban and street dance.
Youngsters from Silverdale's feeder primaries, Clifford, Dobcroft Juniors and Ecclesall Juniors also played a part.
The carnival was a sequel to a similar show staged two years ago, but this one was bigger and better, according to head of PE and event director Helen Duffy.
"Over 200 parents packed in every night to see the show and the verdict was that it was absolutely brilliant, with performances of the highest standard," she said.
"Last time 130 pupils took part so we increased that substantially, particularly the number of boys getting involved. The first time we had three sixth form boys dancing, this time it was 30.
"That was great as they acted as excellent role models for the younger lads taking part. We've been working evenings and weekends on the show and the lighting, costumes and staging were all fantastic," Helen said.
"It means we have a lot to live up to in two years time - it's too big an event to attempt every year," she added.
