THIEVES caused disruption to rail services between Mexborough and Sheffield this morning.
Trains were unable to operate earlier today because of the theft of 20 yards of cables which stopped signals from working properly.

British Transport Police are investigating.

Alternative services were put in place and Network Rail expected the problem to be sorted out by 9.30am.

Network Rail recommended passengers called National Rail Enquiries before making their journeys. It is the second incident of cable theft on the same line within a week.
