More than four million couples in Britain today live together without being married.
At the moment there is no such thing as common law marriage.

So what rights do a cohabiting couple have compared to a married couple?

In this podcast Martin Loxley, partner and head of family law at Irwin Mitchell in Sheffield, explains the difference between marriage and cohabitation. Loxley talks about rights and responsibilities in relation to children, inheritance, seperation and duty to maintain.
