PAUL Cooper is having the time of his life... and it's showing with his performances for Tigers.
The York-based rider has enjoyed a string of fine scores in recent weeks and is very much in contention to be on the Sheffield retained list for next season.

He's always got a smile on his face and the fans have grown to love him at Owlerton, main
ly thanks to his all-action style and determination.

But it hasn't all been plain sailing for Cooper during his time in senior racing. There is no doubt a long line of mechanical problems – including blown engines – have contributed to his slow progess up the ladder.

But recent displays have prompted Tigers bosses to thrown down the gauntlet to Cooper by challenging him to become a top three rider.

He said: "Things are going great and when I'm enjoying my speedway I seem to do well, I suppose that's the way any sport is.

"I had a great weekend up in Scotland last week and scored lots at Glasgow and I just want to keep it going for the rest of the season.

"Things seem to have fallen into place for me in the last month or so and for us to pick up two away wins last week like we did was tremendous. If only we had picked up a couple more along the way our league position could have been a very different story.

"I've been disappointed with the under-achievement and I take my share of the blame for that, we could and should have done so much better but for one reason or another it hasn't happened.

"It would still take a massive effort from the lads to get in the top four and the play-offs and realistically I feel we've blown our chance. But four wins on the trot last week was very welcome.

"I feel confident in my own ability and I feel good every time I get on the bike. I want to go out there and race hard and I think that's shown in my scores.

"And the fans have all been brilliant with me at Sheffield, right from the moment I joined the senior team. The supporters group have helped me with machinery, so have the management along the way and I can't thank them enough.

"Perhaps finally now I'm starting to reward them for their backing down the years and I would like to stay with Sheffield next season."
