As the start of the local table tennis season looms, Shaun Bibby won his first men’s senior one star open tournament at Scunthorpe, defeating Bransley’s Ray Hurst in the final by three games to one.

Bibby took home the winner’s cheque of £70 and further prize money for reaching the final of the veteran’s singles.

Shaun will be part of the Abbeydale A team line up, spearheaded by ex-Redtooth star Matt Dodds and Isobel Ashley who is currently ranked 27 in the England women’s list, in an assault on the Sheffield League Championship, which is currently held by Vulcan A.

The holders start the campaign without David Thompson who travels to Sweden shortly, but they will be in the mix with a squad of Mark Short, Ernest Mpundu, Mo Khan and Tim Dyson.

Former multiple winners Stocksbridge Rugby rely on the ever present Horsfield brothers, Jack Grant, Ian Denton and the returning Matt Kenny.
