ROTHERHAM Harriers Philip Hoole showed the field a clean pair of heels in last night’s Doncaster Town Centre 5k Open Race.

The winner in 2010, Hoole got away on the first lap and was never seriously challenged as he came home in a time of 15 minutes 13 seconds.

Mark Rusbrook (unattached) was second in a time of 15.31, in the race first run in 1994 to celebrate the town’s 800th anniversary, with Armand Bush (Hallamshire Harriers) claiming third spot in 15,37.

Bush formed part of the winning Hallamshire team which won the men’s race.

Doncaster-based Jenny Blizard, who won last year’s women’s race, had to settle for second spot behind Otley’s Rachael Bamford, who came home in 16 minutes 39 seconds.

It was the Rotherham athlete’s first race since a bout of ill-health following her success in the inaugural Brookes 10k earlier in the season.

Kimberworth’s Lindsy James finished third.
