Sharks’ point guard BJ Holmes is aiming for trophies after signing a deal that will bring him back to Sheffield for a third season. Holmes, from Houston, Texas, has been the club’s main summer target as they look to re-sign the majority of last season’s squad. He told The Star: “It feels great to be able to come back to a team that is ready for some silverware this season!”

He told The Star: “It feels great to be able to come back to a team that is ready for some silverware this season!”

His return is also a major boost to the club’s hopes of developing their young players as well as competing for silverware next season.

Managing director Sarah Backovic said: “In BJ’s case not only is he the best pure point guard in my opinion he is a natural born leader. What he can teach our young players will be invaluable.”

The return of Holmes was also inclusive of the playmaker’s desire to be more hands on in development, and includes a role for him within the BBraun Junior Sharks programme at the helm of the Mens U18’s squad.

Backovic said: “Where possible the skills of players are utilised and developed at the Sharks, for example if they are training to teach, they teach at our class room.

“It is an important philosophy to not just care about the players on court but off court and for long term players their post playing careers.”
