SHEFFIELD Sharks kept their cool as the snow came down outside the EIS last night to earn their place in the BBL Trophy semi-finals.

With some of the crowd leaving at the end of regulation time with the score locked at 73-73 Demtrius Jemison and BJ Holmes scored 10 points between them in the extra period to see the Sharks through against a Glasgow Rocks team that could twice have won it at the end of the fourth quarter.

Holmes passed a pre-match fitness test and was in the Sharks starting line up just five days after being carried off in Glasgow. And the American point guard was at the heart of everything Sheffield did during an excellent first quarter for the home team.

A 16-5 run, which included five points from Olu Babalola put Sharks in a commanding 25-14 lead after 10 minutes.

Rocks were much the better team after the break with wily guard EJ Harrison leading the comeback for the visitors.

Micah Williams briefly gave Sheffield a 27-14 advantage but Michael Ringwold’s basket began a 15-2 run, capped by a Jamie Vanderbeken three that tied the match at 29-29.

Andrew Wedemire then gave Rocks the lead before Sharks rediscovered their poise to play Glasgow much tighter during the rest of the quarter.

By half time the Rocks still led, but it was only by one shot at 41-38.

Glasgow pushed their advantage out to 47-42 on two Gareth Murray free throws before Sharks clawed their way back.

Nick Lewis made a two after grabbing his own rebound from a missed shot and five points by Mike Tuck gave Sheffield a four-point lead at 57-53.

However, a three-point play by Wedemire tied the match at 59-59 heading into the final quarter.

Sharks needed a late 6-0 burst to tie the match but Harrison and Murray had shots before the buzzer to clinch the victory for Glasgow.
