Marc Lefebvre must have left iceSheffield on Wednesday with a confused picture of the Sheffield Steelers’ team he was spying on.

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash against his Coventry Blaze, the coach had hoped for a fresh insight into his opponents.

But he arrived too late to see any of the first period goals in the game with Hull Stingrays.

He then saw Sheffield largely out-worked in the second before they move up several gears to command the last session 4-0.

Lefebvre, who played alongside Steelers’ coach Gerad Adams at Sheffield between 2003-5, would surely prefer to face the second-period Steelers, rather than the deadly offensive side that dominated the closing stages.

Steelers will be hoping Rod Sarich has completed a super-quick recovery from a fracture to a bone near his knee for the game, which sees former-captain Steve Goertzen return in competitive action for the first time.

Mark Thomas, who had wretched luck with a back injury last season, suffered a wrist problem in the first period against Stingrays and is unlikely to feature in tomorrow’s Challenge Cup group game.

With Pascal Morency and Rob Dowd on the injury list, Sarich will want to play his part - but he has been around the game long enough not to come back too soon.

Steelers, top of Challenge Cup Group B, intend to hang on to that position with two wins this weekend. They are at Hull on Sunday.
