Rotherham promoter Dave Coldwell has been preparing for one of the busiest weekend of his life.
Coldwell promotes a big show at Bowler’s Arena, Manchester tonight, with 10 bouts. And tomorrow he will move over to the Olympia, Liverpool, to watch two of the fighters he represents lock horns - ex Sheffield United player Curtis Woodhouse and scouser Derry Mathews. The pair are competing for ownership of the Commonwealth lightweight title.
A win for Woodhouse would be another chapter in the remarkable story of a footballer who swapped sports in 2006.
A fortnight later, Coldwell stages a English light middleweight title fight (Rotherham’s Nav Mansouri v Mark Thompson, Rochdale) at Ponds Forge.
Coldwell’s ambition is to stage a big show at Sheffield Arena.
Meanwhile Dave Fidler tops the bill at Concord Sports Centre tomorrow, in a Glyn Rhodes show featuring other locals Wayne Reed and Sam Sheedy. Sheffield personal trainer Scott Westgarth, son of the well known former pro John Westgarth debuts.
