Liam Cameron is hoping to lock horns with a rival who has gone 12 rounds with Carl Froch and six with George Groves.

The Sheffield fighter, who believes his stock is rising after winning the IBO Youth super middleweight title in May, says match-makers are trying to pair him with Charles Adamu. The Ghana-born veteran lost to Groves in a Commonwealth title fight in 2010.

But six years earlier, he went the championship distance with Froch, in Nottingham.

Now aged 36, Adamu might not be the threat he once was. In his last bout in March, however, he went 12 rounds with Rocky Fielding - and he still claims to be world title class.

Cameron, who hosted a sponsorship event at Grosvenor G Casino Sheffield, this week, said he hoped to face Adamu in September.

He said winning his first title had filled him with confidence and “shown me I belong at super middleweight. My strength is through the roof, I am hitting hard now.”

While Adamu is an “exciting” possibility for Cameron, the 23-year-old admitted his first choice opponent would be the much-courted Chris Eubank Jr.
