Sheffield’s unbeaten super bantamweight star Kid Galahad hopes Scott Quigg will be facing him in the opposite corner of the ring in September - but he’s not holding his breath.
Wincobank’s Commonwealth and European title holder called out Bury’s WBA World champion, hoping he could lure him to Ponds Forge on Saturday 20 September, his next live on Channel 5 TV date. Galahad said: “Straight after my last fight my promoter offered Quigg a career-best purse to face me in my home town in September but we are still yet to hear back officially from his promoter, so I’m guessing by the silence they are not prepared to take the fight as they know he will lose his world title in a brutal way. If Quigg really believed he could beat me he’d have grabbed this exposure on terrestrial TV with both arms.”
The Sheffielder added: “My team are looking at world ranked opponents and we will have this sorted in the next few weeks.”
Fans will hope for an opponent better suited than his last one - Australian Fred Mundraby was hopelessly outclassed and retired after four rounds.
