Adam Etches is rebuilding his career with the help of super-tough Russian talent Andrey Meryasev.

The Sheffield fighter lost his unbeaten record against Belarussian Sergey Khomitsky in March. But he’s on his way back and is sparring with Meryasev, who tests his own 17-fight winning streak against Bradley Pryce in Blackpool a week tonight.

Etches said: “This was my first spar since losing and it was great to come up against such a good fighter, who has 12 knockouts to his name. I was happy how it went and now it is all about moving forward and getting going again. I’m boxing on a charity dinner show on July 18 (Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, Norton) to raise money for Weston Park Hospital’s teenage cancer unit. Then it’s on to a big fight in Monaco on November 14.

“I’ve made it clear that I want to take on Khomitsky again, and I hope it is him I fight. But it is up to my manager Richard Poxon who my opponent will be.”

Etches says the Monaco assignment will be a title fight; he lost his IBF International middleweight title to Khomitsky.

“I slipped down the rankings after losing - I’d been 12th in the IBF list - so I will make sure I get back up there again over the next few fights.”

Etches will take part in the ‘Run in the Park’ to raise funds for Weston Park on at Graves Park on July 12.

Meanwhile Ricky Hatton is joining the public clamour to see a Kell Brook v Amir Khan contest happen.

He said: “If Amir doesn’t get (Floyd) Mayweather then I think he should go with the Kell Brook fight. Benn and Eubank made themselves with a domestic rivalry; Carl Froch and George Groves had a great rivalry.

“Khan and Kell Brook could have a trilogy of fights. If you can get 80,000 into Wembley for Froch and Groves, you could definitely get 80,000-plus for Khan and Brook so that’s the one I’d be heading for if Mayweather doesn’t come off.”
