Sheffield’s Jez Wilson will draw the biggest fight of his career - against Chris Eubank Jr - if he passes a medical next week.

The Crosspool middleweight suffered a broken jaw in two places in a valiant contest against John Ryder in April.

He believes he has made a complete recovery. If a doctor confirms that, the British Board of Control should sanction the Eubank fight at Manchester Arena on July 26.

It would be Wilson’s biggest purse (undercard of Fury v Chisora) and the chance to show a huge TV audience that a 34-year-old fireman can beat a golden boy prospect 10 years his junior.

Wilson’s trainer Glyn Rhodes said: “We need the all-clear from the doctor but I’d love to see it happen. Jez went nine rounds with John Ryder who is a great fighter and is ready for a big night.

“At his age, Jez doesn’t want the small-hall shows or opponents flown in from Latvia or Belarus who nobody has ever heard of. Everybody raves about Eubank Jr, but he’s not his Dad, and Jez could upset things.”

Sheffield gym-mate Sam Sheedy has had to postpone a planned fight after damaging a hand in sparring.
