The 6ft 8ins Sheffield heavyweight was stopped two minutes into the first round of a fight with Nathan Gorman in October.

Last weekend the 36 year old returned to the ring and to beat a 60-loss journeyman, Tomas Mrazek, and says he hopes for a resurgence of his career over the next four years. “I would definitely have hung up my gloves if I couldn’t beat somebody like that” said Howe.

“After that (Gorman) loss, I did wonder if I was doing the right thing getting back in the ring. I am a proud man and my ego was dented. “My pride was affected. But I always said I would box until I was about 40 so I have got another four years at it. I would love another crack at a central area title, English and British.

“As long as I am in the gym and training and as fit as I can be with work I am sure opportunities might come in the future.”

Howe had to shrug off a chest infection to fight Mrazek, at Bramall Lane. “I didn’t think I would be fighting. But with there only being three on the show I couldn’t pull out. In the heavyweight game you can get stopped by anybody so to get a few rounds under my belt after a first round stoppage its nice.”
