Kell Brook could be bankrolling millions of dollars in a super-fight with Floyd Mayweather in September if new American press speculation is confirmed.

Sheffield’s IBF world champion and his British rival Amir Khan are in pole position to fight the world’s richest fighter, according to LA Times writer Lance Pugmire.

“I’m told Floyd Mayweather may move towards his next opponent, with Amir Khan and Special K Brook in front, within two weeks,” Pugmire said on Twitter.

That would signal a surprising U-turn for Mayweather, 38, whose camp has never given the possibility of a fight with Brook much credence.

But if Brook and Khan are above the other potential candidates, that would be amazing fillip for British boxing.

The boxing news 24 website says the US public would prefer to see “Money” Mayweather fight Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse or Lamont Peterson.

But Mayweather may be tempted to take on the South Yorkshire fighter who recently told ESPN: “If anyone is getting that Mayweather fight it’s me. “I’m unbeaten, never been close to being beat.”

Unbeaten Brook would love to show off his speed and strength against Mayweather (won 48 (KO 26) + lost 0) in Las Vegas.

The Ingle gym product would be fairly happy with a multi-million pound pay day too!

And to pip Khan to the opportunity would give Brook even more satisfaction.

Khan is hoping the American chooses him as his next opponent for what Mayweather says will be his last fight, at the MGM Grand on September 12.
