Sugar Ray Leonard - one of the greatest boxers that has ever lived - has advised Kell Brook to take his time before returning to the sport.

The American legend, who won world titles in five weight divisions, says it is important the Sheffield fighter heals physically and mentally after his defeat to Gennady Golvkin.

Sheffield’s Brook has undergone surgery for a broken eye socket recently.

He returned to training at the Ingle gym yesterday saying he was looking forward to “those big fights” from Spring.

Leonard, 60, posted a video message directly to Brook saying: “I just want to say a speedy recovery to Kell Brook for his eye surgery that he suffered from Triple G in his fight. Just take your time.

“You fought magnificently, you’ll come back but give yourself time to heal totally, mentally, spiritually, psychologically and physically.”

Leonard also tweeted that Brook “needed a few more fights under his belt before fighting GGG” but added “this young man has so much potential heart.”

Welterweight world champion Brook felt ready to box Golovkin, at middleweight, but immediately after the fight suggested that he might campaign in future at light middleweight.
