Supporters rally round beaten Booth

Friends and gym-mates have rallied round Tyan Booth - controversially outpointed in an English light middleweight title fight in Sheffield, last weekend.

Former world champion Junior Witter - a stablemate at the Ingle gym - led the support for a boxer who had taken the fight against Rotherham’s Nav Mansouri, at two days notice.

Witter tweeted: “A few of us had u winning. You landed the bigger cleaner shots and u hurt him...and with no notice.”

Another boxer Jack Perry added: “Absolutely gutted. I had him winning that by a couple of rounds. Close fight but I believe he’s been robbed. Chin up bro.”

And one fan claimed that veteran former fighter Jamie Moore had Booth winning by four rounds.

Booth, who lives in Firth Park, said: “Even though the fight was in Sheffield it was a Dave Coldwell bill and I was the away fighter. I think the judges found it easier to go for the home fighter and that’s something that I have had since turning professional. But it’s been good to hear so many people thought I should have won it.”
