The ECB Yorkshire Premier League title will be on the line on Saturday when Harrogate visit York knowing that only a victory can give them the chance to deny their rivals a fifth successive Championship.

Both had impressive seven wicket victories last week which extinguished any lingering hopes Barnsley had of gate-crashing the party.

Sheffield Collegiate entertained Barnsley at Abbeydale Park and found batting tough against the pace of Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Ryan Hercules. When the first Collegiate wicket fell at 24, 16 overs had been bowled and two overs later the score was 32-4.

Wickets continued to fall and when veteran Nick Gaywood was out for 29, after facing 84 balls, the score was 49-7 and no other batsman got beyond eight as Collegiate were bowled out for 67 after 35.3 overs.

Barnsley skipper Richard Wilkinson took his wicket tally for the season to 44 when he returned 5-17 from 12.3 overs and the impressive Graeme Whiles finished with 4-16 off seven overs.

Luke Shutt struck an early blow for Collegiate when he trapped the dangerous Simon Widdup lbw for 5 but the Barnsley batsmen gradually took control and despite losing five wickets they were home and dry in the 19 over.

Jon Trower hit 25 and Steve Nuttall 15 while Will Street bowled 5.2 overs to take 3-18.

Sheffield United’s Paul Cummins lost the toss at Weetwood and the YCA skipper Jack Leaning elected to bat. An opening partnership of 54 gave the hosts a sound start, Collegiate junior Eliot Callis hitting 34 and Leaning took his total for the season to 803 before he was bowled by Saqib for 63.

Wicketkeeper Edward Wilson added 60 and George Ross 38 as the Academy posted a challenging 259-5. Saqib took 2-53.

United’s openers made an excellent start putting on 128 in 35 overs before Paul Cummins was stumped by Wilson off Karl Carver for 47.

They then lost Ben Percival 10, James Martin 10 and Danuka 16 and when Mark Cummins was dismissed for 85 the task was beyond reach and a point was their scant reward.

Joe Tetley ended unbeaten on 18 and Dean Smith 10 not out when the overs ran out with United on 206-5.

The season ends this weekend with the replayed matches originally scheduled for April 21 being played on Sunday. Collegiate take on the inform Academy at Weetwood and their disappointing season ends on Sunday with a visit to York, who may well be celebrating a fifth successive title.

United wrap up their season when they host Rotherham to Bawtry Road, which undergoes a massive redevelopment immediately after the season ends, followed by second-half-of-the-season surprise package Hull.
