Collegiate bounce back but United are well beaten by first-class Lees

Sheffield Collegiate bounced back from an opening day home defeat by Hull to register a 42 run victory over Appleby Frodingham at a cool and breezy Abbeydale Park.

Collegiate’s opening pair of Nick Gaywood and Ashton Blakey put on 57 for the first wicket, and Blakey hit 68 before he was trapped lbw.

Collegiate slipped to 200 all out with one ball of their 55 overs remaining, but Appleby were dismissed for 158. Matt Dixon took 4-33 and Olly Pearson claimed 5-42.

Sheffield United were well beaten by Yorkshire Academy, going down by ten wickets with 45 overs to spare.

Captain Alex Lees, who has a first-class century to his name, finished unbeaten on 91 from 71 balls, and Jonathon Tattersall added 42 from 51.

Barnsley comfortably beat Hull by 54 runs, with Ali Jahangar taking 4-37.

Nathan Smith hit 71no as Rotherham set Scarborough a target of 177-7,but Darren Harland 85no and Chris Grey 56no ensured a comfortable eight-wicket home victory.

Doncaster and Cleethorpes had to settle for three points each after rain ruined their match.
