Cometh the hour, cometh the man and in Sheffield Hallam’s case it was Brendan Creed.

The goal ace claimed a hat-trick for the third team in their 4-2 win over Ben Rhydding Seconds with Harry Williams the other scorer.

It put Hallam joint top of Yorkshire Premier with Leeds 2, 11 points clear of third-placed York University. They travel to face Hull University on Saturday.

The Fourths had to settle for a point in a 3-3 draw against Leeds Adel Carnegie their goals coming from Piers Kitson, Nick Sims and Simon Law.

They remain second in Yorkshire Division 1 but the gap between them and leaders Bradford has stretched to five points although Hallam have a game in hand.

It was a goalfest for the third-placed fifth team who came through 7-5 against City of York 4, the team immediately below them in Yorkshire Division 3. There were doubles for Kendal and Battison with others from McClure, Lumb and Wheen. The Sevenths went down 6-3 to a Chapeltown X1 in a friendly. Godbolt, Turkington and Starbuck scored.
