Danny spurred on by pain of defeat
Video nasty: Danny Harrison sat through a re-run of the match
FRIDAY night is payback time.
That’s the message from Rotherham United captain Danny Harrison ahead of their League Two encounter with promotion-chasing Southend United.
It was the second-placed Shrimpers who inflicted the Millers heaviest home defeat of the season, claiming a 4-0 victory courtesy of goals from Michael Timlin (2), Peter Gilbert and Neil Harris last September.
The Millers have lost their last three matches, and Harrison believes Andy Scott’s men must use the pain of the loss at the Don Valley Stadium to spur them on this week.
The hard-working central midfielder told The Star: “We definitely owe Southend one after what happened earlier on in the season.
“I remember we had a video nasty after that game and, believe it or not, they didn’t actually carve us open. They just came and did a professional job on us and we couldn’t handle what they threw at us.
“Southend didn’t do anything special. They were efficient at what they did. They slowed things down and did everything very well.
“Every loss is hard but it was the manner in which we were beaten that hurt. It is hard one to take, losing in front of your own fans 4-0.
“It will be really tough down there. They are doing well in the league so we need to start on the front foot and make sure we get at them.”
Weather permitting, Scott’s troops are poised to make the trip to Southend on Friday morning.
