A minute’s silence was held before Sheffield RUFC’s 37-21 defeat to Pocklington at the weekend in memory of young player Joss Rowley, who lost his battle with cancer recently.
In a statement on the club’s website, Sheffield chairman Andrew R. Langdale said: “Our heartfelt commiserations go out to his parents Graham and Tiffany and his brother Leo, who is a star in our U14s.
“Joss joined us in May 2011 and I was privileged, along with my other coaches at that level, to have first-hand experience of an unbelievable all round athlete with speed, strength and a natural vision for the game.
“Immediate South Yorkshire recognition beckoned, and there is no doubt he would have gone on a lot further.”
Langdale thanked local rivals Dinnington and Doncaster RUFC for their tributes.
