As winning doubles go, this was up there with the best of them for Health 365 Hatters.
They followed up their National Cup Final victory over UWIC Archers by inflicting a first league defeat of the season on the Women’s National Division One leaders.
When the two sides last met in the league, Hatters were edged out in overtime but there was no such scenario at All Saints as Vanessa Ellis’s side ran out comfortable 90-84 winners.
However, it was the Welsh side who dominated the first quarter as they drained multiple threes from several players to build up a 32-23 lead.
Skipper Lisa Hutchinson led the comeback in blistering style and UWIC had no answer to the pressure as Hatters turned things around to take a 57-52 advantage at half time.
UWIC never came closer than five points in the second half despite introducing a zone in the third period as Helen Naylor and Stephanie Gandy continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Naylor finished top scorer with 24, two points more than Gandy while Hutchinson returned 14.
The second part of Hatters double-header at Leeds fell victim to the weather as did the Under-16 and Under-14 games.
