Julie Page and Steph Gandy inspired City of Sheffield Hatters to success in their opening National Cup clash at Leeds Carnegie.
Page, who was part of the GB squad for the London Olympics, headed the scorers with 24 points, one more than Gandy, as the holders completed a comfortable 87-69 victory.
Lauren Thomas-Johnson, who like Gandy missed out on final GB selection for the Games, weighed in with 11 points.
Hatters were just four points to the good at the break (38-34) but stepped it up in the second half and were always in control. They open their National Women’s Division One season with a home game against Sevenoaks Suns at All Saints on Sunday (4pm).
