Duo shine as Millhouses back in business

It was as you were at the top of Division One as leaders Millhouses Works returned to winning ways with an easy home victory over Sheffield Centralians.

Brad Sampson hit an unbeaten 54 as they made 179-9, Scholey returning figures of 5-83, and Michael Cox then claimed 5-37 as the visitors were dismissed for just 75.

Holmesfield kept up the pressure with victory over Hollinsend Meths. David Ward, 73 and Mark Rodgers, 57 helped them to total 199-7 and the visitors were then dismissed for 142.

Will Hellewell bagged 6-35 for third-placed Parkhead as they raced to a comfortable seven wicket win at Hundall who were sent back for 83.

Hathersage came through to complete a two wicket win in a high-scoring match at Apperknowle. Crookes smashed 83 and Baggley 48 in the home side’s 227-8 (Hutchinson 4-69) but Ovenden’s 87 steered the visitors to 228-8.

Sheffield University Staff posted a useful 191-8 at De La Salle OB with 73 from Paul Kerry and 53 from Needham (Walmsley 4-43, Gayle 4-67). The home side closed on 165-7 with 46 from Wainwright.

Stocksbridge’s unbeaten record in Division Two continued with an easy eight wicket victory over Grindleford who they bowled out for 92 (Jim Tomlinson 4-23, Andy Hibbert 4-30). They then raced to 95-2 with leading scorer James Ward unbeaten on 40.

Second place Calver had a good win at the Dore home of Weston Park. Batting first the hosts made a useful 184 (Chandrika Banu 54; Edd Coxhead 4-51) and Calver lost seven wickets in reaching their target with a fine 67 from Hallowes.

Top individual score of the day came from Baslow’s Chris Cowley who hit a superb 123 out of his side’s total of 259-7 against Division Three rivals Millhouses Works Thirds (Harry Kidd 49no, Tom Elleker 40). John Keer, 4-29 and Andy Hone, 4-59 then helped dismiss the visitors for 151 as Baslow consolidated their position as league leaders.

Division Four leaders Hollinsend Meth’s posted 210-9 (Vessey 57) at home to De La Salle OB Seconds who were then sent back for 84. Thew had figures of 5-26 and Whittle 4-16 while Wainwright finished unbeaten on 44.

Highest team total of the day came from Division Five leaders Stocksbridge Thirds who romped to 300-5 (Newton 77, Lyons 57) and then dismissed Baslow Seconds for 117 (Pickford 4-17).
