It was final heartache for Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters in the Betty Codona Classic - but the disappointment was tempered by more international recognition for the club.
Under-strength Hatters were beaten 86-59 by hosts Nottingham Wildcats in the final.
Ashley Harris put in a typically towering effort with 20 points and nine boards for the winners while Naomi Campbell 13, Jo Lowry 13, and Steph Gandy 10m were top scorers for Hatters.
Gandy had given a brilliant peformance in the semi-final as Hatters beat Team Northumbria 67-63 She finished the game with 24 points after using her experience and class to shoot a scorching 68% from the floor.
Jo Lowry and Georgia Gayle scored 12 points each to make it a Nottingham-Sheffield final for the third year in a row.
Hatters begin their WBBL programme at Oakland on Sunday (2.30pm).
* Four Hatters girls - the most from any club - have been selected for the England womens U16 national squad and the U15 National Development programme following tthe regional development tournament in Manchester last month. They are Abbey Whitehouse, Jess Southwell, Ashante Richards and Zoe Kateregga.
