We’ve got a dog!
In a new partnership between Owlerton Greyhound Stadium and your local sports paper the puppy Star Grass Roots will be running in our name for the next year.
The promising puppy, who will be two in August, made her debut at yesterday’s BAGS meeting, finishing fourth.
She started well, contesting the lead in the early stages, but faded towards the end. Veteran trainer Elaine Parker, who has been at the stadium for 50 years, said: “She’s a lovely pup and can do really well, but needs two or three races before she comes into her own.”
Grass Roots will follow the puppy’s progress, training, races and success so readers can keep updated about the dog’s form.
At the end of the year a donation of prize winnings will go to the Sheffield Retired Greyhound Fund - a branch of the national Retired Greyhound Trust operating in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire areas - and a Star charityto be announced.
The puppy was handed over to us yesterday by Owlerton Stadium general manager Dave Perry.
And you can follow her progress in Grass Roots every week - plus keep in touch with all the latest greyhounds news from Owlerton.
