An academy for promising foreign talent wanting to combine academic qualifications with football training has been launched at Hillsborough College.

The FM Sports Academy has up to 20 fee paying places available a year and operates in partnership with Sports Etudes in Paris, whose students have previously visited the college for month long trips every year.

It offers an academic and sports training package for 16-to-20-year-olds who want to spend a year or longer studying English and a formal qualification while improving their football skills.

Foreign students are able to choose from English courses, BTEC diplomas, A Levels and foundation degrees. They receive coaching daily and play a competitive game against teams representing semi-professional clubs.

The college has a link with Dinnington Town FC and students also have the opportunity to compete in trials for professional clubs.

Money raised through a proportion of the course fees is being reinvested in the college by supporting student football teams to play in a local Wednesday Afternoon League.
