BARNSLEY director Don Rowing has echoed manager Keith Hill’s expectation that midfielder Jacob Butterfield won’t play for them again.
Butterfield, in superb form until damaging knee ligaments in December, is out of contract but has been offered a new deal by the Reds.
However, with a clutch of top flight and Championship clubs interested in the 21-year-old, Butterfield’s future surely lies away from Oakwell.
Rowing said: “We’ve put a deal to Jacob and he has until June 19 to accept it or otherwise. We’ve had no response as yet. Sadly I do expect our offer to be refused, particularly given the stature of some of the other clubs believed to be interested in him.”
As Butterfield is aged under 23 the Reds can demand a compensation fee from whoever he signs for, but that amount will be far less than what he is worth.
