BARNSLEY are hopeful of signing former Sheffield United and Chelsea midfielder Jacob Mellis today.
The Star understands Mellis is due for talks at Oakwell with a view to signing a two-year-deal. A free agent since he was released from his contract at Chelsea, 21-year-old Mellis played 15 games on loan for the Reds in 2011.
Last season the former England Under-19 international had a trial with Queen’s Park Rangers but no permanent contract was agreed.
Meanwhile, Egyptian international and former Tottenham striker Mido’s move to Oakwell is on hold.
Mido, also a free agent, was expected to have a medical yesterday.
But Reds director Don Rowing said: “We are still lined up to have talks with him [Mido] - and we’re hopeful a deal can be done. He’s an experienced player and we’ve said we’ll back Keith [Hill] in the transfer market.”
