SHEFFIELD United turned down an offer from Blackpool for Stephen Quinn on transfer deadline day - but the joint League One leaders did allow Daniel Bogdanovic to join the Tangerines for an undisclosed fee.

The Star understands Blackpool, who were relegated from the top flight on the final day of last season, tabled an official bid yesterday morning for the industrious Quinn in a last ditch attempt to prize him away from Bramall Lane.

However, United flatly rejected the approach and sources at the South Yorkshire outfit say the offer fell way below their valuation of the hard-working Dubliner.

Quinn, who has been in imperious form for Danny Wilson’s side in their unbeaten start to life in the third tier of English football, claimed several clubs in the Championship had expressed an interest in his signature before the transfer window shut at 11pm last night.

“My agent called and told me that United have rejected several offers from Championship clubs,” he said. “My agent doesn’t tell me much to be fair but I think he said that Blackpool were one of the clubs.”

While Quinn, aged 25, is destined to feature prominently in United’s promotion charge between now and January, when the next window opens, manager Wilson let Bogdanovic move to the Tangerines on a one-year deal last night.

The Maltese international has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place since arriving from South Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley on a free transfer in the summer of 2010, scoring just five times in 37 appearances.

Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of United forward Jordan Slew in a £1 million deal plus add ons. The talented youngster, who turns 19 next week, made 14 appearances in United colours, bagging three goals. It was less than two months ago Slew, who has also represented England at Under-19 level, agreed a new two-year contract. He was also the subject of a seven-figure bid from Fulham in the summer.
