Sheffield Wednesday have been drawn away at South Yorkshire neighbours Rotherham United in the first round of next season’s Capital One Cup, writes Dom Howson.

The draw took place this morning and the Owls will make their first ever trip to the New York Stadium. It will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2008. On that occasion, Rotherham dumped out Wednesday in the first round of the competition, then known as the Carling Cup, on penalties following an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, will welcome Burton Albion to Bramall Lane for the second year in a row in the tournament. United, who have recently appointed David Weir as manager, lost 5-4 on penalities last season.

Doncaster Rovers and Barnsley will entertain Rochdale and Scunthorpe United respectively while Chesterfield will travel to Leeds United. Other notable ties include Bradford City, last season’s beaten finalists, heading to Huddersfield Town while League One newcomers Wolves visit Morecambe.
