Season will be no walkover: Adkins

Sheffield United boss Nigel Adkins has warned against believing that the standard of opposition in League One is weaker this season.

United are one of the favourites to gain promotion back to the Championship after a five-year exile and some pundits have suggested, taking into account who has gone up, and teams that have come down, this coming campaign represents the best chance for the Blades to move up a level.

However, Adkins says Sheffield United, as one of League One’s biggest clubs, will show respect to every team they play against, not least because he has experience in being the underdog himself.

“Never ever underestimate your opposition,” said Adkins.

“I think that’s an important thing this season.

“We know the stature of a club like Sheffield United we want to be at least in the next division, but we can’t underestimate in any way shape or form any team in this division becasue you do that at your peril.

“I know from my own personal experiences being at Scunthorpe, we would always go to the bigger club and and be classed as an underdog.

“I know that there are a lot of hard-working, genuine football people at this level and we will give them the utmost respect.”
