Sheffield United manager David Weir has warned it would be a mistake to get carried away by the League One club’s unbeaten record during pre-season, writes James Shield.
But Weir, whose team begin the new League One campaign with a match against Notts County in two days time, did concede last night that confidence is high behind the scenes.
“Everything we have been doing is all part of a process,” he said. “We’ve been working towards ensuring we’re ready for one thing and that is competitive football.
“Results are not the only thing you look to take from friendlies. Sometimes they aren’t even the primary focus because you want to work on certain aspects of the game but I’m not going to deny that winning is still a good habit.”
Tony McMahon and Marcus Williams could miss County’s visit due to injury. Andre Boucaud, who helped Trinidad and Tobago reach the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup earlier this summer, is poised to feature for Chris Kiwomya’s side.
