Sheffield United director Scott McCabe last night revealed the League One club are ‘honoured’ to host Fenerbahce later this month, writes James Shield.
The reigning Turkish champions, who have lifted the Super Lig title 19 times, will visit Bramall Lane on Thursday 31st with both teams agreeing to donate a portion of the gate receipts to the Soma Mining Disaster Fund.
“Fenerbahçe are a leading European name and to have them as our guests at Bramall Lane is a great honour for everyone connected with the Blades,” McCabe said. “This should be a fantastic and unique occasion for all supporters and integral to the fixture is supporting the Turkish miners fund following the tragedy and something both clubs and respective supporters will wholeheartedly support.”
United, meanwhile, will complete their pre-season preparations at York City on Saturday 2 August. They begin the new campaign with a home match against Bristol City seven days later.
Ticket prices and further details about the match with Fenerbahce are scheduled to be released in due course.
