Sheffield United have been warned not to under-estimate Coventry City’s determination to haul themselves away from the relegation zone ahead of today’s League One fixture at Bramall Lane.

And, in an attempt to reinforce his point, Steven Pressley vowed not to walk away from the visitors despite being confronted by problems both on the pitch and behind the scenes.

Pressley, whose reign at the Ricoh Arena has been hijacked by a spat between the club’s owners and support base, said: “I love these challenges, make no mistake about it. The one thing about me is I am not frightened by adversity or anything that is put in front of me.

“At this moment in time, and it’s only my opinion, many managers would have walked away from this job. Many, many managers, but not myself because for two years I have faced challenge after challenge and I’ll continue to face them head on.

“A challenge is something I desperately like and have done throughout my career. As a player it was challenging and in my first management job at Falkirk it was a similar challenge to this.”

City, who are just a place and a point above the bottom four, could be bolstered by the return of Sanmi Odelusi and Andy Webster against a United team searching for its fourth consecutive win.

Nigel Clough, the hosts’ manager, expects to be without Mark Howard, Michael Higdon and Ryan Flynn while Jose Baxter has been receiving treatment for a dead leg.

Pressley, who led City to a 1-0 victory over United earlier this term, began his managerial career at Falkirk and added: “There was a period during that job when I faced adversity from our own supporters and turned it around, so the journey was very similar.

“I have a total belief in what we are doing and total belief that we will get to the place I want us to get to and I have the absolutely driving courage for it. That’s the one thing nobody, nobody, should really underestimate.”
