Manager Nigel Clough has vowed that Sheffield United will continue to attack teams away from home this season, after a promising display against likely promotion rivals Preston.
Clough’s charges shared the spoils with North End at Deepdale, after an entertaining affair finished 1-1. Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Jose Baxter, who scored an impressive equaliser, impressed going forward, and United forced North End goalkeeper Jamie Jones into action on numerous occasions.
And Clough, who also praised United stopper Mark Howard for his own fine individual display, said: “It was an excellent game - and I doubt you’ll see better in this league this season, or even in the Championship. We wanted to go out there and have a go at them, and I think that’s what we did.
“Preston are a good team, we know that, but we only get three points for a win, no matter who we play - a team at the top, or the bottom. That’s the way we have to view it.
“We’ve got to be as ready as we were at the weekend, to work hard all the way through the season.”
United’s Capital One Cup third-round clash against fellow League One side Leyton Orient, at the Matchroom Stadium, has been confirmed for Tuesday, September 23 (7.45pm).
