Sheffield United: Che Adams’ focus all on Blades despite Cardiff interest

Che Adams set his sights on firing Sheffield United towards promotion after welcoming the appointment of Nigel Adkins as manager.

And the precociously talented teenager, who burst onto the scene in spectacular fashion with a two goal salvo against Tottenham six months ago, insisted reported interest from Cardiff will not distract him from the task ahead.

“I’m fully focused on next season,” Adams told The Star. “Nothing else at all. Stuff like that is all part of the learning curve in football. I don’t take any notice because I just focus on my game. I just try to make myself a better player day in and day out. Score goals and make myself difficult to drop.”

The 19-year-old, who scored twice during January’s Capital One Cup semi-final against Spurs, issued another statement of intent when United, making their first outing under Adkins, began preparing for the new season at the New Manor Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Adams impressed after being introduced as a second-half substitute and capped his exuberant display by helping create Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s 85th minute winner.

Neill Collins, James Wallace and Michael Higdon also featured after lengthy absences while Martyn Woolford, the former Millwall winger, is expected to take part when United visit Cheltenham Town for another warm-up fixture tomorrow evening.

“I think it’s good that the new gaffer came in and gave everyone a clean slate,” he said. “Because it means we all start afresh.

“It’s a massive opportunity for myself and the rest of the young lads. I had a taste last season and hopefully I can play more this time around. That’s definitely my aim.”
