Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough has vowed more graduates of the club’s Redtooth Youth academy will be handed first team opportunities before the end of the League One season, writes James Shield.
Clough issued his pledge after Conor Dimaio and Otis Khan made their senior debuts during Tuesday’s victory over Crawley Town.
“We were just trying to get them on the pitch,” Clough said. “Whether they touched the ball or not, it’s still an important step in the right direction.
“They’ve come on and played in the first team, the next time hopefully it will be for a bit longer.
“They’ve got over that hurdle now of actually getting on and being involved which, people must not forget, is going to be a big moment for them.
“I think they’ll play a few games for us in the next few years, we hope, and it was nice to be able to bring them into a winning team.”
Clough added: “We’ve made sure quite a few of the youngsters have been involved in the senior squad lately and that’s something, hopefully, we’ll be able to keep doing.”
