David Weir has no plans to part company with Harry Maguire amid claims that Manchester United are preparing to submit a £4m bid for the centre-half.

Weir, whose friend David Moyes took charge of the Premier League champions earlier this summer, made the admission after being questioned on reports officials at Old Trafford will lodge the offer early next year.

“I don’t know anything about it,” the Sheffield United manager said. “Harry’s got a lot of attributes, he’s a young lad, he’s played a lot of games, been involved internationally so I wouldn’t be surprised if a few clubs were looking at him.

“We don’t want to lose him, though. Definitely not.”

Maguire, aged 20, has made over a 100 appearances for United since graduating from its Redtooth Academy in 2011. He made his debut for England under-21’s when Northern Ireland visited Bloomfield Road, Blackpool, 10 months ago.
