Captain Michael Doyle is backing Jose Baxter to continue his hot scoring streak against Stevenage when Sheffield United travel to the Lamex Stadium this weekend.
Baxter, who has scored twice in his last two games after being switched to a more advanced role under manager Nigel Clough, scored twice at the Lamex on the first day of the season, for his former club Oldham Athletic.
Baxter’s 87th-minute penalty sealed a dramatic 4-3 victory for the Latics, and Doyle told The Star: “Jose has worked really hard, and you can see he’s reaping the rewards.
“He’s a man in form, and he’s already got a couple of goals down there so he’ll be looking for more.
“As a player sometimes, you get clubs or grounds where you always seem to do well, and hopefully that’s one more for him.”
Baxter made a quiet start to life at Bramall Lane after being signed by Clough’s predecessor, David Weir.
“It can be difficult for a player like Jose at a new club,” Doyle added.
“But I’m delighted it’s coming together for him, and I think we’ll see more from him.”
