Chris Wilder has described the latest addition to his backroom staff as ‘the best fit’ as a togetherness builds both on and off the pitch at Sheffield United.

Former Chesterfield director of player recruitment Paul Mitchell has been brought on board by Wilder in a similar capacity and given the title, Head of Recruitment/Development.

Mitchell has already been working alongside the United boss and his assistant Alan Knill for a number of weeks and played a role in bringing Jack O’Connell, John Fleck and Jake Wright to Bramall Lane earlier this month.

Wilder says he is ‘delighted’ to bring Sheffield-born Mitchell to the club.

“Paul is greatly respected in the region and we are delighted to be able to bring him in,” said Wilder.

“ We had a number of options but he was the best fit for the project we have and he’s already settled in with the rest of the staff.”

Mitchell left Chesterfield in May, a year after being given that position, when he turned down the opportunity to join Paul Cook at Portsmouth. And he says the biggest positive he has found in the short time involved at United is the focus shared by all involved.

“There’s been a lot of discussions with members of staff at the club and what pleases me most is that we have a clear view on how we take this club forward,” he said.
