SHEFFIELD United may have had to suffer some fans discontent after their victory over 10-man Walsall - but manager Danny Wilson says that he will take more 1-0 wins like that if that’s what is required to achieve promotion.
Wilson’s Blades earned massive plaudits for the way they played last season when they rattled in the goals, being top scorers in the division and the only club outside the Premier League to top 50 goals at home.
Few expected United to repeat such flamboyance or be so prolific this time and, so far, have picked up points a touch differently, proving resilient and hard to beat - their unbeaten run of 16 is the club’s second best start in its history.
“We always want to put on a show for our supporters and we pride ourselves on the way we play,” said the Blades boss.
“But there are times when it isn’t possible. Teams will come, stifle our attacking threat and frustrate us. However, despite wanting to turn it on every time for our fans, I would and I’m sure supporters would be the same, will take a 1-0 win every week.
“It was scrappy, yes, but you take it and move on.”
United will open the top tier of the Bramall Lane Stand for Monday night’s visit of Portsmouth. That will be the first time this season. Tickets are £18 (£14 concessions) and £1 for under 16s.
The FA Cup tie at Bristol Rovers on Nov 3 has not been selected for live tv after all. It is all ticket for Blades fans and the club has got 845 seats and 500 in the terraced area.
