DANNY Wilson, the Sheffield United manager, believes the South Yorkshire club are about the see the best of Chris Porter after watching the striker fire his team to Wembley.

Porter, Wilson’s second signing after taking charge at Bramall Lane last year, booked United’s place in next weekend’s League One play-off final by scoring the only goal of their two-legged contest with Stevenage on Monday.

Despite finding first-team opportunities in short supply since leaving Derby County, Porter repaid the former Northern Ireland international’s faith with a clinical late finish.

Wilson said: “That will be an enormous boost for Chris. It will be an enormous boost for everyone in fact.”

United will face Huddersfield.in the capital on May 26 following their two-legged aggregate victory over MK Dons at The Galpharm Stadium last night.

Having seen his attacking options savaged by injury, suspension and off-the-field matters, Wilson hopes Porter is now set to fulfil the potential which prompted him to recruit the 28-year-old.

Wilson added: “Everyone will have taken to him because of that. It’s just what he needed.”

Wilson also expressed satisfaction that United had kept two clean sheets against Stevenage, saying: “That pleases me as much as anything.”
